--Hello Troop 10 Scouts and Families.

I hope everyone has had a great summer. I know some scouts that did. There were a lot of merit badges earned at Massawepie. Great fun was had on our summer paddling trip in August. Now its time to think about our Fall Program.

--The first couple of dates to think about are:

Sunday 9/13; 3:00pm at the Scout House - PLC Meeting. The Patrol Leaders Council Meeting is usually the first Sunday of the month but this past weekend was a holiday so we will be holding it this Sunday.

Monday 9/14/ 7:00pm at the Scout House - Troop Meeting.

Monday 9/21/ 7:00pm at the Scout House - Troop Meeting.

Monday 9/28/ 7:00pm at the Scout House - Troop Meeting.

--A Little more about Sunday.

The PLC Meeting is open to all. I would encourage all scouts to attend. It is typically required of scouts holding a leadership position.

This is a time for scouts to lay out the blueprint for the coming months and put some detail behind the coming weeks. The meeting is presided over by the SPL (Senior Patrol Leader), This year that position is held by Zack Sequeria.

This is time for all scouts to bring their ideas up to the Troop for activities and campouts. The PLC is where we put dates the these activities, campouts, meetings and Courts of Awards. So put on your thinking caps and bring your ideas to the PLC.

--Christmas Tree Sale.

I just wanted to beat the retailers to Christmas. Every year Troop 10 holds a Christmas Tree and Wreath sale. This is our major fundraiser for the year. The Tree Sale raises money for the troop to operate, subsidize outings to keep costs down and buy equipment for use by our scouts.

I need an adult or two to help manage the sale. We have had a lot of help for past parents to make this sale a great event.

I would specifically like to Call out Ian McNabb for all his help over the years. He has continued on since his son graduated several years ago. Ian has taken his own time to go to Hornell every year to tag our trees. Every year we have the best looking trees around.

I am calling Ian out now to thank him for all the support he has given Troop 10. Ian has asked to step down from his tree tagging duties this season....

Thanks Again Ian!

If this is something you as an adult would like to help with it entails a morning of tagging trees, getting permits to use the park, creating a schedule and general organization for the three weekends of the sale.

This is an important role for the troop and does require some time commitment but for only a short period.

I look forward to seeing everyone as we get back into school and scouting. With all of your help and participation we will have an great year with lots of Advancements, Merit Badges, Camping Memories and more.

See you all soon.

Mr. Ulrop

Troop 10 Honeoye Falls NY completes 50 Miler Award!

Posted on Aug 19 2014 - 5:14pm

From the reeds in Tupper Lake, one by one, 8 intrepid paddlers appeared. With a strong final effort they completed a journey that began 5 days and 57 miles earlier. Troop 10 Scouts (Zack Sequeira, Matt Stephany, Brian Tornatore) and one from Troop 273 (Jason Tabit) paddled from Raquette Lake, via Forked Lake, Long Lake, the Raquette River and Tupper Lake starting on 8/13/14 and finishing on 8/17/14. They camped and cooked for themselves along the way. On the fourth day they performed service projects for the NY DEC at Trumblee Landing on the Raquette River. The projects included installing dutch doors on an outhouse, digging a pit and moving another outhouse, cleaning garbage from an old hunt camp that had been recently un-earthed due to water erosion, and clearing a mile and a half of a hiking trail of downed trees and over growth. For their efforts the paddlers will be awarded the BSA 50 miler award.
